VMFC would like to announce its intention to represent Manchester's gay Village by competing in the 2007 IGLFA World Cup being held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 23-29 September.

The club reached the final in the last tournament in 2005 which was held in Copenhagen and only narrowly missed out on becoming Champions losing 4-2 in a penalty shoot to Paris in the Final.

Manager Stu Butters said "everyone who was involved in 2005 knows what a fantastic experience it was and taking a team to Argentina is a great opportunity to see how far we have come as a team against the best gay football clubs in the world and continue where we left off in Copenhagen by representing Manchester on the world stage", he added, "we want to show the rest of the gay football world what Manchester is about by representing the Village both on and off the pitch. It's important to enjoy these tournaments but when it comes to the football we want to go one better than last time around and bring the trophy to this city for the first time!".

Achieving this is going to be far from easy; the cost of sending one player is approx £1,000 and the club plans to hold numerous fundraising events throughout the summer in an attempt to help players with travelling costs. In addition, the club will be offering businesses in and around the Village the opportunity to become a 'player sponsor' - Those who become sponsors will receive a host of benefits from the club including signed picture of the team, a personalised VMFC shirt, access to the club's members for promoting events and free advertising on the club website and in selected local press to name but a few.

If you interested in finding out more about the forthcoming fundraising events or would like to support the club by becoming a 'player sponsor' then get in contact, we'd want to hear from you!
