VMFC have teamed up with the Joint Health Unit at Manchester City Council to help in their city wide campaign to promote a positive and healthy approach to growing older… a subject some of our current players will be all too familiar with!

As part of the project, VMFC were asked to put forward two individuals who were the best representation of different generations working together to achieve the clubs ambitions and goals.

Both individuals would be photographed and will feature on leaflets and billboards as well as having the honour of becoming the face of ‘November’ in the specially produced 2008 calendar to promote the campaign. The calendar itself is not just about portraying positive images of ageing but is also about intergenerational working and breaking down the barriers between generations.

A rigorous, at times bitter, contest to find the ‘prettiest’ youngster at the club ensued. Early front runners Jez Ure and Steve Clayton were quickly overtaken by Ryan O’Connor who has previous ‘modelling’ experience but in the end it was Liam McKenna who was selected and he now joins our very own ‘fine wine’ of a club secretary Andy Bates as the face of VMFC in the campaign.

The photo that will be used was taken at one of our weekly training sessions (see above) and will feature in the many thousands of calendars being distributed across Manchester and will surely brighten up a cold and dark November day!
