Village FC returned from a barn storming performance against GFSN league high flyers London Falcons to register a comprehensive 4-1 semi final win and reach the GNL Cup Final for the first time.

The match, which was a home tie for the London Falcons, was played at the impressive Charlton Athletic FC’s training ground. It was clear Falcons were in the mood for business before the game after the Village lads witnessed what can only be described as a thorough warm up lasting the best part of an hour.

The fact the game was even going ahead was nothing short of a miracle. Right up to Wednesday of the previous week the Village team were without a manager and some key players through injuries and others not being able to make the journey south but credit were credit is due, the players and management rallied around and got it sorted. Not the best preparation for an important match but the team had a good mix of experience and enthusiasm and care taker manager Justin Morley got his players in the right frame of mind before the K.O with a good mix of clear instructions and his trademark ‘chilled out’ approach to the game.

Every player played their part in a terrific performance and limited the GFSN leaders to a handful of chances all dealt with by the impressive VMFC defense and goalkeeper. The game however was well and truly won in the Falcons half with 3 first half Village goals from Johnson (2) and Shapiro rocking the home side and practically putting the game out of reach before the end of the 1st half.

The free scoring Village didn’t finish their with a further second half goal from Village old boy Feldman and a consolation goal from Falcons meant the game ended 4-1. Celebrations continued all the way back up the M6 and now the lads can look forward to an end of season final to be played against Leicester who defeated Yorkshire 4-3 after extra time. The date of the final is likely to be either 4th or 11th May and venue is yet to be confirmed, watch this space!
