VMFC Head to Budapest

26 June 2012

VMFC head to Budapest, Hungary on June 27th to compete in the Eurogames football tournament.

Having won the 2nd division last year, the 2nd team (and friends) are looking forward to defending their title and having a great time in Hungary.

The competition, played over three days between June 28th and June 30th, sees Village take on three familiar opponents in a group stage, with the top two making it through to the semi-finals. Facing Manchester will be Birmingham Blaze, London Falcons and GFC Friends Prague.

VMFC's second team have faced all three teams in the past two years. Birmingham are the most familiar opposition. The Brummies defeated Village 3-1 in the Gay Games in Cologne two years ago, though the tables were turned in last year's Rotterdam Eurogames when Manchester won 1-0. Prague also defeated Village in Cologne. A tense match in the inaugural IGLFA European Cup last year in our home city saw Village squeeze out a 1-0 win over Falcons, though it was the London team that went on to win the division.

All games are played over 60 minutes with the semi-finals and final played on the final day.

Elsewhere in the competition, Stonewall will be looking for victory and to retain their crown in division one, which they sealed last year with a last-minute winner against VMFC's first team.
