Match report:

Bowler v VMFC1

Sunday 30 September 2012

Village's 1st team got their first win on Sunday with an impressive performance but it was an evening drubbing for the 2nds.

Hough End isn't top of our venues to play at but there was a refreshing presence of grass on the usually mud-filled pitches as the 1st team faced newly promoted Bowler.

With a number of players missing, Jason donned the goalkeeper's gloves and there were moves to centre back for Pete and right wingback for Duncan.

The summary of the match is quite short: Village played very well, gave Jason very little to do in goal, and would have had a far more impressive scoreline than 2-0 if a few more chances were converted. Damo cut in from the left twice before laying the ball off for James for the opener on 55 minutes. A series of missed opportunities followed, with Duncan not quite connecting with two efforts, while Alex went on a mission to destroy the crossbar with not one but two shots against the woodwork. Fortunately, the game was put to bed with ten minutes to go when Alex's persistence presented a chance for Duncan who calmly passed the ball into the net.

It was Village's first win of the league season and, while there are much tougher games in the weeks ahead against Lawds, Miam Miam Celtic and Mace, it hopefully gives the team some momentum to push on and move up the league.
