Match report:

VMFC2 v Gorton

Sunday 30 September 2012

The 2nd team certainly didn't have any luck when the fixture calendar meant that their first two games would be against the runaway top two of last season. Last week's performance was high on effort against Baptist Academy and a 5-1 scoreline didn't really reflect how close the game was until the final 20 minutes. However, the energy and tactical discipline wasn't quite there this week as Gorton ran out 7-0 winners.

There were some positives, with Alex putting in a commanding display in midfield, while Steve Holmes again showed terrific energy as he ran the opposition ragged. It should also be noted that Village dominated the first ten minutes before Gorton settled and got their striker into play who tormented our defence.

There's not too much to add to the rest of the match. We know we weren't good enough and hopefully we will rebound in time for next week's fixture against MCF.

There was one bright spot to the evening. With Ryan stepping down after a year as 2nd team captain, Jeremy has been handled the armband as a reward for his commitment to the club and positive attitude. Congratulations to him!
