Match report:

VMFC2 v Manchester Club Football

Sunday 7 October 2012

The 2nd team's afternoon game saw another heavy defeat as they went down 7-1 to MCF. Despite having several players back, the team suffered from some tactical naivety and a lack of communication. Tom Reece went close on two occasions but the opposition were too hot to handle and went into the break 4-0 up.

Adjustments were made at half time and Village settled better into a standard 4-4-2 formation. Jeremy's throw-ins were causing the opposition defence a lot of problems and Steve Holmes won several free kicks for pushes as he started to win the aerial battle. One of them resulted in a rare goal for Rob, who headed in at the far post from Tom's delivery.

Sadly, positional naivety crept in again during the final 15 minutes and MCF were gifted three late goals as Village found themselves hopelessly outnumbered at the back.

It's been a poor start to the season for the 2nds. There is certainly a lot to be worked on as the team looks to improve. However, it's obvious that the quality of the league has moved on considerably since last year and it's going to take a lot of fight and determination to battle on over the rest of 2012/13.

Next week sees the team travel to Clapham for the annual London Titans Tournament as Village look to defend the cup they won last year.
