Match report:

VMFC1 v Saints

Sunday 11 November 2012

The 1st team welcomed back Craig, Duncan and Danny to the starting line-up as they took on Saints in the morning game. Saints play in a simple but effective fashion, favouring a direct style and a reliance on set pieces. This caused a number of problems early on as Manchester struggled to cope with corners and long throw-ins. The pressure finally told on 15 minutes when an unmarked header from a corner was powered into the net for the opening goal.

Despite this, Village would go on to control most of the rest of the game. Passing was good and a number of crosses caused constant pressure on the Saints defence. The second half saw Saints increasingly threaten on the counter attack as VMFC piled on the pressure upfront but it was to be one of those days as chance after chance went begging and a final attempt from Duncan struck the crossbar in the final minute.

It was the 1st team's first defeat in six games and one that was a harsh reflection on a performance which was for the most part very good. With next weekend currently looking like a rest week, Village will look to bounce back in two weeks time.
