Romans Win GFSN Tournament in Manchester

3 June 2013

London Romans won the GFSN Summer Tournament during a brilliant weekend in Manchester, defeating London Falcons on penalties.

In total, 20 teams from 12 different clubs took part in the competition at Wright Robinson College in Gorton on June 1st. In a departure from the usual format, the tournament was 7-a-side. Goals were hard to come by for a few teams, though Romans, Falcons, Newcastle and Mersey managed to work their way to the semi-finals with the minimum of fuss.

Inevitably, the final was decided on penalties, with Falcons missing twice to hand Romans their second tournament of the season, having picked up the London Titans Tournament back in October.

There was a consolation prize for Village Manchester's second team, who defeated Wolverhampton Harts in the Vase final thanks to an early Lee Rushton goal and then a spectacular strike by Jordan Langford.

As usual, the social side of the weekend was great fun and Village would like to extend our thanks to The Thompsons Arms, View, Cruz 101 and Taurus for their support over the three days, as well as Manchester Cars for their assistance.

Sunday also saw the draw for the GFSN Cup next season. VMFC will face Brighton at home on the weekend of August 17/18th, with the winners scheduled to take on Newcastle in the 1st round in October.

It was a pleasure to see everyone from around the country in Manchester. We hope you all enjoyed your time here and look forward to seeing many of you again over the summer tournaments.
