After a summer of international failure for the England U21 and England Women teams, IGFLA European Champions Village Manchester get back to domestic action when they take on Sporting Manchester at the University Pitches, Wythenshawe at 11am on Sunday.

Following last season's mid table league finish, the first team will be looking to get this season off to a flying start and build on the momentum that was generated over the summer.

A strong showing in Dublin, where they beat the hosts in the final, has whet the appetite of the squad who are looking to challenge for the main honour come the end of the season.

A relatively unchanged squad will follow their opening match with three games against the teams that finished immediately around them last season - Deltiotte, Saints and Mace.

Those games, all in September, will give a good indication of how the league may pan out and first team manager Jason McAuley, is eager for the club to get off to a good start.

Jason said: "We had a great time in Dublin over the summer and since then the team have been itching to get back to league action. We have had a couple of friendlies to get our fitness up to scratch and hopefully this preparation will set us up well for what will be an intriguing opening game."

"Of course the league will not be won in the first few games but an opening weekend victory would be a great start!"
