New Season to get Underway

28 August 2014

The league season for both teams gets underway this month with the first team taking part in Division One of the Manchester Accountants League and the second team joining 11 other teams in an expanded Manchester City Central League.

The first team with face a number of familiar foes this season as they look to improve on last season's finish of seventh out of 10. With a new manager at the helm - former captain Sam Connell taking over from Jason McAuley - there is a renewed vigour in the club and hopes are high of having a productive and successful season.

Village had a great start to the season last year - going on an unbeaten streak for the first six games including hammerings of Iraq FC and Lawds - but as Autumn turned to Winter their form took a turn for the worse – with only a run to the MAFL Kings Cup semi-final a real positive as the season petered out.

This season they face a competitive start as they face South Manchester, Saints, Lawds and runners up Miam Miam in September.

The second team finished in the top half of Division Two of the Manchester City Central League last season as they finished fourth out of eight.

This season things are a bit different as the two divisions have joined into one with a number of teams leaving the competition and a number of new teams taking their place.

A few of teams will look familiar too Village Manchester but there are a couple of new teams such as CASIM Lions FC and Rainbow FC that are an unknown quantity and it promises to be an interesting season for new manager Rob McPherson and his assistant James Toland.

The league fixtures are due to be announced in early September with the league campaign kicking off at the end of the month.

Both teams will benefit from the influx of new players that have joined over the summer. Village have seen over a dozen new players join the club and many of these players have already seen action in a Village Manchester shirt throughout pre-season. With the competition for places increasing, this can only bode well for the future of the club and there are high hopes for an exciting and successful season.
