Mixed September for the First Team

30 September 2014

The first team got their season underway in September as they faced a trio of tough games in their opening Manchester Accountants League fixtures. And it was a mixed bag for the team as they earned a win, draw and a defeat.

Village kicked off the season in the best possible way as they saw off South Manchester 4-3 on the opening day of the season. The game looked to be getting away from Village as the opposition raced into 3-1 lead following Wilson's opener but superior desire and fitness saw the club fight back to take the three points with Wilson getting his second, Mooney's splendid header and Fairbrother's assured winner.

The club then faced Saints in their second fixture. After a tough opening half which saw Village slightly under the cosh, the team came out all guns blazing in the second half as they took a two goal lead courtesy of Mooney and Bolgar. Unfortunately they could not keep the opposition at bay for the full game and Saints fought back to equal the game and share the spoils.

The third game saw Village face Lawds and a disappointing performance saw the club slip to a 4-2 defeat. Bolgar was again on target as he grabbed a brace but the team will be hopeful of getting back to winning ways as they enter the month of October.
