Review of October

30 October 2014

October was a tough month for the club with both teams finding wins hard to come by. The first team had three matches and saw results of one win and two losses whilst the second team lost four out of four.

The first team kicked off the month on the right foot as they saw off Maccabi's first team 2-1 thanks to a brace from our Slovakian import, Bolgar. Next up they faced league leaders AFC Flixton and, despite a spirited performance, they went down 4-0. AFC Flixton have impressed since they got promoted and they still boast a 100% winning record – and they even put 11 past Saints in one fixture!

The team’s next fixture was in the Robinson's Brewery County Cup first round against Denton Cricket Club FC. The club found themselves two down at half time but got a goal straight after the break to reduce the deficit. However it was not to be as Denton capitalised on a couple of mistakes to win 5-1 and knock Village out of the Cup.

The team’s final game of the month against Deloitte was postponed due to the opposition being unable to field a team.

The second team kicked off their season with a disappointing 5-2 loss against Audenshaw Athletic. The team fielded a host of new players and goals from Benn and McGivern gave the team hope but Audenshaw took advantage of some defensive mistakes to see out the game.

Next up was New East Manchester. After a great defensive display for 75 minutes, the Village defence was cruelly breached as a shot was deflected past Crosby for the only goal of the game. One nil was again the scoreline in the team’s next game as they narrowly went down to the league leaders - CASIM Lions.

The team’s final game of the month was up against Rainbow – another team fighting at the top of the league. With a quick attack and high tempo play the opposition took a three goal lead before Village fought back thanks to goals from Bolgar and Reece. Rainbow just had too much for Village though and they got another one to win the game 4-2.

Both teams will be hoping that November brings more success and the results that a lot of the performances are meriting.
