New manager appointed for second team

18 February 2017

Alex West has been named as the new manager of the second team, taking over from Rob McPherson. Alex, who has been coaching the seconds for the past couple of seasons, is a well-known and respected figure in the club and is a popular choice with the players. Commenting on his appointment, the man from Leigh said: "I'm really pleased to have been appointed second team manager and I'm looking forward to the challenges we will face over the next 12 to 18 months.

"I'm incredibly lucky to be handed a team that is well organised, as Robert McPherson has done a great job over the past few years, and now it's my turn to take the reins and make him proud.

"For the upcoming season the club has decided to re-introduce Sunday league football for the second team and this is something I'm really looking forward to. The only way the club has been able to do this is by good turnouts at training and lots of interest in second team football. For the next 18 months, going into the 2017-18 season, we will be looking for that commitment and I hope that you all can join me."

Northern Irishman McPherson stepped down from the role following two and a half years in charge. Speaking following the management change, Rob said: "It has been a great experience managing the second team and I was proud to be able to give so many new players their debuts for the club.

"The team could not be in better hands with Alex taking over and it promises to be an exciting time ahead for the second team."
